This is the second year of our collaborative calendar. From pole to pole, we explored life on the ice and came up with seven scenes of subtle textures and muted colors. A serene view of the critters who survive the subzero …
The 2012 Uncommon Climate Calendar pays homage to the enduring diversity of species living in one of the rarest landscapes of our planet, the Arctic. This signed and numbered limited edition calendar marks the second annual collaboration of the two artists who created it.
Each page becomes a 5×7 limited edition artprint to frame + keep. seven scenes in all. printed on 100% cotton archival paper by hand on two antique letterpress machines – with love.
A collaboration between Allison of BirdDog Press and Theresa of WonderBound Press.

March is My Month

I love to open a Google Analytics Alert to find a sweet blog post on something I hold dear to my heart. Thank you Kathya of CHOCOLOCATERIA! March is my month too! And you reminded me that I wanted to write an in depth post about each month explaining the inspiration behind each composition this year. I guess I need to get started.

The Heritage Handmade Calendar has brought so much joy and opportunity to the BirdDog Press since it’s creation in collaboration with WonderBound Press. The rewards just keep coming! I am happy to announce yet one more connection this collection of days carefully pressed on paper has given me – Black Cat Farm~Table~Bistro. They are a picture of exactly what the calendar set out to celebrate. Eric and Jill Skokan are a treat to work with. They have cultivated an inspirational 70-acre farm in Boulder with heritage breed pigs, sheep and chickens, as well as row after row of organic heirloom vegetables which they tend to with full heart and soul and serve in their 13th Street Boulder restaurant.

Today, they are cooking at the James Beard House in New York, having been invited for another event after last year’s debut. Just this past Thursday, my husband and I had the pleasure of cozying up on one of their plush leather loveseats for a tasting of what will be offered tonight in the Big Apple. Paired with wine, each course was an experience to discover, reflect and savor. The vibe of the restaurant, the care that goes into each morsel of flavor and knowing that each bite could be traced to local origins right down to the very root it came from made me feel almost a celebrity status.

2011 Heritage Handmade Calendar : Get them THIS Weekend in Boulder!

Barely off the press and into the package, almost half of these 2011 Limited Edition Calendars have found a happy home and a prominent space on the wall! Theresa illustrated and carved a woodcut for each animal in the calendar and I added color, layout and of course feedsack-inspired patterns to each one. It tops the list as one of my favorite and most rewarding collaborative experiences to date! We are so proud of the work that went into them and are so happy to see how well they’ve been received. They are flying out of my vintage market suitcase! Last chance to get them in person and talk to the artists is this weekend at the Firefly Handmade Holiday Market on Pearl Street in Boulder. Or you can order one in my online shoppe and we will ship it to you.

This calendar features 12 months of woodcut heritage breeds {and a few other farm friends for fun}, feedsack-inspired patterns, heirloom crops and moon phases. It is letterpress printed on sustainable bamboo paper and tied with authentic vintage feedsack. Each page becomes 5×7 art print to keep.

calendar 2011

We are beyond thrilled on this fantastic feedsack friday to announce our 2011 Calendar project. A collaboration between Allison of BirdDog Press and Theresa of WonderBound Press. This calendar features woodcuts of heritage breed farm animals, a showcase of heirloom seeds and patterns inspired by vintage feedsacks cultivating 12 beautiful scenes to see you through 2011. The calendar was designed with the intent of paying respect to the current homesteading movement, permaculture and bringing awareness to the healthy diversity that is critical for saving American farms today. Each month will bring to life a combination of function and beauty – a month of days, the phases of the moon, a heritage breed, an heirloom crop, a feedsack inspired pattern – handprinted on an antique letterpress on sustainable bamboo paper. With each turn of the page, the illustration becomes a frame-worthy 5×7 letterpress print to keep.

The calendars will be $40 and will be ready by December 1st. Due to the high interest in this work, we will gladly take pre-orders. Contact us for more information or go HERE to pre-order online.

Light My Fire!

I needed another thing on my list, like I needed to set my head on fire. But I went ahead and did it anyway. Who wouldn’t want to work with Kristin of Studio22 {yes, the one with the house I want to move into} and Denise of my favorite kiddo clothier, Dandy Social Club? It was an opportunity to be incessantly inspired, immerse myself in the local/grassroots direction I was headed anyway and meld with like minds. I couldn’t say no.

So … Firefly Handmade is here! and we’re setting it ablaze with a holiday handmade craft market December 10th, 11th & 12th on Pearl Street in Boulder!

That means we’re looking for exceptional Colorado crafters to apply by October 25th for our market. All of you creative folks that I have met at the past few markets of the summer, Horseshoe, Sweet William … It’s time to bring your goods to Boulder town. Download the application on our website today!
