hello, kitty!

While I think it is a bit of overkill to have Hello Kitty kitchen appliances, hospitals and even themed weddings – and I’m really more of a dog person – I do have a serious soft spot for Hello Kitty. I spent hours in the Sanrio store during my elementary school years pouring over Little Twin Stars, Keroppi, My Melody, Badtz-Maru and more. All of those little letter sets, stickers & tiny charmed pencils had to have an effect on my love of letter writing. Do you remember that gum that tasted amazing for about 2 minutes, and then all of the flavor was gone? I think my favorite was peach. I’ve recently taken notice of a newer character {born in 2002} that could just suck me back in – Deery Lou the cheerful fawn who lives in the Rainbow Forest!

So! There is going to be a celebration honoring the happy cat in the Los Angeles area starting next week. Three Apples, an exhibition celebrating 35 years of Hello Kitty will be at the Royal/T Café/Shop/Art Space, October 23 – November 15, 2009. There will be art, a product retrospective, even a decked out apartment. I wish I could go check it out, so if you have a chance, please send me a re-cap and some photos!

Hello Kitty and I are the same age, I mean, we grew up together! With that, I must send my best wishes, Happy 35th Birthday, Hello Kitty!
